Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis

In the exciting book, Bud, Not Buddy, the main characters are Bud, Mr. C and Mrs. Tomas. The main characters are the people who are a big part of the story.  Mr. Curtis, the author, writes this as a comedy.  It takes place during the depression era.

Bud has a problem, a big problem.   His mom died and he never met his dad.  So he goes to a foster home.  He gets placed with a mean family.  He sleeps in their shed and gets attacked by hornets.  He runs away and finds Mr. C, or Herman E. Calloway.  He discovers that Mr. C is his grandpa.  Mr. C plays a bass, a humungous four stringed guitar.   His band members give Bud a recorder and a trumpet.

I rate Bud, Not Buddy 5 out of 5 stars.

King Arthur by Roger Green

One day, Arthur is dropped off at Sir Ector's door step. Arthur simply pulls a sword from a stone and becomes king.  He has many adventures with Sir Lancelot, Galahad, Gawain and many more.  It's a book of adventures, fighting dragons, defeating evil sorceresses and battling the evil knights.

My favorite part was when the Green Knight challenged Gawain to chop his head off.  He said in a year he would return that stroke.  The Green Knight survived the slice, thanks to his magic green belt.  Gawain went to a man's house and made a deal with him.  Gawain did not follow the rules of the deal.  Then, he went to battle with the Green Knight and found out that the Green Knight was the man that he lived with.  So the Green Knight only injured Gawain instead of killing him.

I recommend this book for ages 9 and up.

Swiss Family Robison by Johann David Wyss

Swiss Family Robinson is an adventure packed book about a family who gets shipped wrecked.  They meet a girl whose name is Jane.  If you want to read this book, you better be ready for armies of apes, giant land crabs and much more.  My favorite part in this book is where they come face to face with a giant boa constrictor.  To beat the snake, they had to shoot to bullets at it's head.  I recommend this book for ages 8 and up.
